<p>I&#8217;ve been seeing the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/100dayproject/">#the100dayproject</a> hashtag floating around and I really loved the concept.</p>
<p>100 days of making or doing something different. .</p>
<p>I&#8217;m already a full time maker and didn&#8217;t want any craft projects to distract me further, so instead I&#8217;m going to do portraits of toys. It&#8217;ll force me to use my DSLR outside of product photos in hopes of improving AND it&#8217;ll give my massive collective some love.<br />
All the wins!<br />
I&#8217;ve been numbering them on IG, and decided to post them here every time I have seven posts.</p>
<p>So, counting the one above and in order, here is photos 001 through 007</p>
<p><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/002.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5249" alt="#100dayproject / Toy Photography {an Art School Dropout's life}" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/002.jpg" width="1202" height="1000" /></a><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/003.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5250" alt="#100dayproject / Toy Photography {an Art School Dropout's life}" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/003.jpg" width="2684" height="2684" /></a><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/004.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5251" alt="#100dayproject / Toy Photography {an Art School Dropout's life}" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/004.jpg" width="1000" height="1000" /></a><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/005.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5252" alt="#100dayproject / Toy Photography {an Art School Dropout's life}" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/005.jpg" width="1500" height="1500" /></a><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/006.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5254" alt="#100dayproject / Toy Photography {an Art School Dropout's life}" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/006.jpg" width="2592" height="2592" /></a><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/007.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5255" alt="#100dayproject / Toy Photography {an Art School Dropout's life}" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/007.jpg" width="2647" height="2647" /></a></p>

<p>They had loads of places to land, but sometimes if you were lucky they&#8217;d land of you! they landed on my husband A LOT.</p>
<p><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_013.jpg"><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_014.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2759" alt="butterfly_ct_bday_smith_014" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_014.jpg" width="550" height="352" /></a></a>Plus there are people walking around telling you about the butterflies and even helping you catch one on a paint brush (you aren&#8217;t allowed to touch them) CT was able to hold the paintbrush a few times. It was one of the highlights of her birthday.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_014.jpg"><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_061.jpg"><img class="aligncenter wp-image-2751" alt="butterfly_ct_bday_smith_06" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_061.jpg" width="550" height="1504" /></a></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_0021.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2746" alt="butterfly_ct_bday_smith_002" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_0021.jpg" width="550" height="722" /><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_0041.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2748" alt="butterfly_ct_bday_smith_004" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_0041.jpg" width="550" height="410" /></a></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Right before you walk into the pavilion they also an exhibit where they teach you all about the life cycle of butterflies and moths. If you go at certain times of day they also have other huge insects that you can hold&#8230; if you&#8217;re brave enough.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_0011.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2745" alt="butterfly_ct_bday_smith_001" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/butterfly_ct_bday_smith_0011.jpg" width="550" height="256" /></a>If you are ever in DC I highly recommend this as a stop! It&#8217;s $6 an adult, $5 per kid to get into the pavilion, but its SO worth it. I&#8217;d do it every month, maybe even twice a month. I&#8217;d recommend buying tickets ahead of time just in case, they only allow a certain amount of visitors per half hour. Oh and if you on Tuesdays it&#8217;s free!! (but you should still reserve tickets online, I imagine the free days are packed)</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I&#8217;m already looking forward to when the holiday season is over so we can head back down. We were told that each time you visit is a completely different experience. I want to see if that&#8217;s true.</p>

The sun was nice, bright and warm. PERFECT photo weather! Of course I took advantage of it. I now have about two weeks worth of product photos to edit and I couldn&#8217;t be happier.</p>
<p>I edited the Juxtapose Necklaces first, because I was excited to see them. I was so happy with the final close up photos that I just had to share some of them! They feel sorta dramatic to me. Kinda personal too. I&#8217;m thinking of printing off the top one to hang in my sewing room, as a colorful reminder of where I started.</p>
<p>Fun Fact: One of my favorite things is taking macro or up close photos. I love being able to capture detail that sometimes the naked eye can&#8217;t even see. I seriously prefer it over the everyday, real world around me photos. I wonder what that says about me?</p>
<p><em><span style="color: #999999;">If anyone is interested, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/MiniASD" target="_blank">all of these necklaces have been added to the shop, or were already in the shop but have updated photos now!</a></span></em></p>

<p>So, this is kinda a weird collection. It&#8217;s not really a physical collection. I can&#8217;t really hold it in my hands. I don&#8217;t display it throughout my house like my other collections. It&#8217;s a collection of photographs. Photo&#8217;s of signs to be exact.</p>
<p><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs004.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1486" title="signs004" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs004.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="362" /></a><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs006.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1487" title="signs006" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs006.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="402" /></a>I don&#8217;t know exactly when I started collecting these. I really got into photography full on in highschool when I took my first photo class. I think a lot of the photos back then were of signs, and other random things. Then I started working in photo labs soon after, and the discounted processing made it so much easier to take photos of EVERYTHING.</p>
<p><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs005.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1488" title="signs005" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs005.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="226" /></a></p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t start putting all my sign photos into one spot until I started using <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/artschooldropout/" target="_blank">Flickr</a>, many years ago. I was able to categorize everything, and put like things together. I&#8217;m almost up to 500 signs so far. Some are local and a lot are from my, post mommy life, travels. I love going back and looking at them. They&#8217;re something so simple, and normal to our everyday life. To me they&#8217;re pretty, colorful and interesting.</p>
<p><a href="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs002.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1489" title="signs002" src="http://artschooldropout.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/signs002.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="411" /></a>If you would like to see my entire collection,<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/artschooldropout/sets/72157606676269722" target="_blank"> just head on over to Flickr</a>. I took a bit of a break from taking a lot of photos of inanimate objects when CT was born. I was more interested in taking pictures of her, plus we didn&#8217;t go out much. Now that we are taking more day trips, I think I may start adding to my collection again!</p>
<p>I&#8217;m also thinking once I hit 500 photos, I may have them all printed up in one of those <a href="http://www.blurb.com" target="_blank">Blurb books</a>. I&#8217;m all about those things right now.</p>
<p>Do any of you have unconventional collections? I&#8217;d love to see them!!</p>
