#AnimalDoodleADay – the First Set

Instagram is still one of my absolute favorite social networking sites right now, there is so much going on. Which is weird to say since its just a bunch of square photos that you can scroll through and like or comment on. That being said, it has been one of the things that has kept me going this past year and helps inspire me non stop! I have met some super great people that also inspire me. It has also been a great platform to help me grow as a crafter, artist and person. I constantly feel the need to try something new, post it and hear peoples thoughts on it. Instant feedback! One of my favorite things the internet/smart phones has given us.

Anyway, now onto what the doodles below are all about…

A new friend I have met through IG, Lindsay of Em & Sprout (she makes super duper cute prints, clothes and accessories) has set up a daily doodle challenge. #animaldoodleaday . She put together a list of 31 different animals to doodle (I struggle saying draw, because I’m not sure where my art belongs. A rant for another day). One animal for each day of the month. I don’t normally take part in these type of challenges, but I’ve been feeling stuck lately and I did buy myself some new pens last month, so “why not?”.

Every night before bed, I sit down with a pencil and a brush pen and I quickly draw that days animal. I try not to put too much thought into each one, because if I did, I’d psych myself out. I guess I’m a nervous artist.

I’m falling in love with the process of art all over again. Apparently it was the right time to jump back in, and ignore my worst critic… me. To help with my “art anxiety” I am going to post some of my pieces each week for the next four weeks. They aren’t in any particular order, I just put them together in a way that was pleasing to my eye.

So here goes…

animaldoodleaday_week1_003animaldoodleaday_week1_001 animaldoodleaday_week1_002animaldoodleaday_week1_005animaldoodleaday_week1_004I am nowhere near a perfect artist, but I feel like sharing everything I do will help my anxiety and confidence. Maybe. Haha. One nice thing that has come out of this exercise is I’m opening my mind up to a lot of options. I want to create again, I’m not feeling AS lost.

Am I the only one who gets nervous about sharing the stuff they draw?

Flower Doodles

I hate to just sit around, I’d prefer to be kept busy. So when I get sick, I get super frustrated. This was the case the past two weeks, and to keep myself occupied I took up doodling in my sketchbook non stop. I’ve been meaning to get back into that habit anyway. It’s been too many years since I took time to just draw, and I am certainly very rusty.

flower_doodles_001Once I felt better I scanned in a few of my little flower doodles and decided to make a repeat pattern with them.

flowerdoodle_fabric_001Which then means I of course uploaded it to Spoonflower and ordered fabric swatches in a few colorways. I had to. I’ll post pictures of the fabric once it comes in.

Then I figured if I was already doing that, why not upload one of the colorways to Society6 too! I absolutely love the phone case, I think it was the perfect application for the repeat.

I noticed while I was on there that I had a promotion that I could share with all of you. From now until January 12th at midnight (PST) you can get FREE SHIPPING when you purchase anything for MY Society6 shop! (you must click the link to get the offer) I thought that was pretty cool, and I’m now wondering how often they do promotions like this?

Happy New Year…

2014_002

..9 days late!

I have spent the last 10 days getting sick, resting, feeling mostly better, taking care of a sick toddler, prepping for a rescheduled birthday party, cleaning for said party, dealing with house emergencies and just doodling in my sketchbook. It’s been oddly nice, but now I’m ready to get back into the swing of things. I’m working on some Juxtapose Necklaces for a shop update/reopening, and hope to have everything all together by the end of the month. Later than expected, but I also have a baby shower for my sister coming up, a few other get togethers and important life things.

So heres to a new year, and new adventures!

House Tour: the Living Room

livingroom_housetour_12172013_010Today I would like to share with all of you the Living Room photos that weren’t used in the “At Home With…” post! Most are up close shots like last week, but I still love them!!

I feel like it looks less packed when viewed this way. It’s my second favorite room in the house and I spend most mornings here waiting for CT to wake up.

Also please note that since taking these photos the coffee table has been over run by lalaloopsies and I don’t think I’ll be moving them anytime soon.

This room will be changing again very soon anyway. I have already bought all the supplies to make a sofa table for behind the couch in the middle. I’m going to attempt to make one using wood, stain and pipes. Kinda like you see all over pinterest. I’m hoping to start on it this weekend since all the holiday craziness is over. Though I do have CT’s birthday party in 8 days… Ugh. I have too many ideas and goals and not enough time.

House Tour: Library

library_housetour_12172013_0016library_housetour_12172013_007I figured I had all of the extra photos from the “At Home With…” post, so why not share them? Most are up close shots, with a few, sorta, full views. I just like taking close up shots, I guess it’s because I take photos of little things ALL THE TIME!

Anyway, Enjoy!

I wonder what else is out of place? Also, these close up shots totally show imperfections. Like that gap between the corner bookcases.

I have a few photos of the Living Room too. I’m planning on sharing those later next week, after all the crazy holiday stuff is over.

I’d also like to say thank you to all of my readers who commented on the original post! You guys were all too sweet and you totally made my day!

Frysquatch and the Log Lady Log Ornaments

frysquatch_logladylog_001This was the ornament set I was talking about last week! The one close to my nerdy heart. I made it as part of an ornament swap I signed up for hosted by Shari of Unpetitmeow. It was all done through Instagram, so you could see whatever everyone else was making, and try and guess who was whose secret partner!

My partner just happened to be a friend of mine, Heather (I seriously lucked out guys!). Her lists of favorites was awesome! Futurama, Cryptozoology, Twin Peaks and knitting. I don’t know anything about knitting, so I went with the first three. The first thought I had was “how about Fry dressed up as a yeti? or maybe sasquatch?” Well I ran with it and made a clay Frysquatch! (my own made up term) The other ornament is a simple log to represent the Log Lady’s Log!

They were both so much fun to do!! I want to make the entire set of Futurama for my tree, and maybe even a set of Bob’s Burger characters?

I have been asked a bunch of times already if I will make these, and the Donut Mushroom Hybrid ornaments for sale. I am contemplating remaking the mushrooms and the log and casting them for next year, but I WILL NOT be selling any Frysquatch ornaments. I don’t like the idea of selling licensed anything. I even felt weird making this as a gift, it’s a gray area and I’d rather stay there. I just knew Heather would love it, and I made no profit from it.

But yeah, keep an eye out for replicas of the others! I have been itching to do more 3D molds, but never could decide WHAT to cast. Now I know and I’m excited to get back on track. When would be a good time of year to add them to my shop?
