March Crafternoon

Above it the one and only good (enough) photo I took this month at Heidi’s crafternoon! I even brought my camera, but forgot about it once all the festivities began. I seriously am way too absent minded these days.

This months crafternoon was all about Easter. There were adorable Easter decorations everywhere, plus awesome awesome colorful sweets to eat. If you need a visual, Heidi did a post about it yesterday with some great photos! The craft this time around was dying Easter eggs, something I haven’t done in years! I didn’t know we were supposed to bring eggs (absent minded, again!) so I “borrowed” some of Katie’s home grown eggs!! (thank you again Katie!) They were sooo small and cute! Plus they were all different natural colors. I felt they needed to be super simple and modern for some then layering the different tones. I loved the way they came out! I now feel like this might be the year we start dying eggs at home too, I think CT would love it.

The past couple of crafternoon’s there has been a white elephant gift exchange, which has been super awesome! We can bring anything handmade, thrifted or just bought that is around $10. I usually leave with something food related, and have been happy every time. Plus I get to make something that is for an unknown recipient, I really like that. It forces me to think outside my normal making box.

This time around Heidi tried something different. Instead of the normal gift, we were to bring Easter baskets filled with whatever we wanted. I actually struggled with this a bit at first, apparently I thrive on limits and rules when it comes to blind gift giving, but in the end I decided to do mostly handmade items.

I didn’t do a traditional basket, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to fill it. So instead I did a little bucket. I added some candy, a cast plastic brooch, hairpin, and a ring. I also made a little clay Pyrex brooch (please don’t mind the painting, I haven’t even held a teeny paint brush in almost 8 years) and a set of Pyrex themed pot holders. I hoped the handmade nature of it all would make up the baskets lack of size! Ha.

The recipient who ended up with my “basket” really seemed to like it, which always makes me happy! The basket I got was also really sweet! It contained a bunch of candy (that CT has been getting at), adorable egg ornaments, a little wooden puzzle, sunflower growing kit and some Biggs and Featherbelle soap (which was the main factor in my choosing that particular basket, I LOVE their products!). I seriously made out in this deal.

As always I really enjoyed my day and can’t wait for the next one! I’m already thinking of what I’ll bake and what I might make as my gift. Thank you again everywhere, especially Heidi!

Behind the Scenes: Pillows, Dresses and a Very Tired Jessee

I’ve been a little down in the dumps lately. I’m on a new test diet to see just how much I’m allergic to gluten, which has not been fun. Basically I have to force myself to eat something with a gluten ingredient in it everyday for the next five weeks (I take the weekends off). So I pretty much have been poisoning myself! I’m tired, grumpy and weak. I just don’t have the energy to do too many projects, so I’ve been trying to stick to the easy ones, or computer based ones.

Which brings me to the above photos! In my down time lately (which is pretty often) I have been dreaming up loads of new things. New Wonky Woodgrain pillows in the above colors, new monster pillows, and a whole pile of dresses for myself (remember that dress obsession I was talking about?). I was able to do most of the design work on the computer and then just order the fabric from Spoonflower. I also have been designing some new 3D pieces for a cold cast metal jewelry line I’ve been thinking about! I’m excited!

Everything was easy enough, and I feel accomplished in the end. I hate not feeling accomplished at least once a day!

I promise to post more photos when I get to actually work on all these things. I’m seriously counting down the days until I can be gluten free again. I miss the energy I had and how great I felt about myself.

A Baby Chevron Quilt

I have been waiting FOREVER to post this! I made it back in October and wasn’t able to get it to its new owner until recently. Life just kept getting in the way! (or I’d forget to bring it with me, which is a normal occurrence for me)

I made this specifically for an adorable little newborn baby girl who’s mama loves pretty vintage things. So of course it had to be pink, dainty and have something vintage looking on it. I also wanted to give it a modern edge, which is where the off set chevron design comes in. Most of the solid fabrics are Kona cotton and the flower print is a piece of a vintage sheet! I made it a bit bigger than a normal baby quilt, only because I got a bit carried away while making the half square triangles!

I love the design so much that I’m thinking of making another one for CT, but a little bit bigger since she’s outgrowing all of her other baby quilts!

If I Had Unlimited Funds: March 7th

So today’s window shopping theme is all about dresses, tights and boots! My newest obsession (which isn’t THAT new since I also talked about it back in November).

This latest form of obsession started a few weeks back while I was browsing the Internets, when I came across Target’s new designer collaboration with Prabal Gurung, and this dress

I wanted it right away! It was the perfect color, perfect shape and even had a geometric twist to it. So I waited until my husband came home (and for friends to head out, since we had company that day) to take me to Target. I didn’t have high hopes it would fit, no dress every fits me right. My shoulders are petite, my torso is long and my legs are short. Never a good combo when it comes to dresses… or so I thought! I was totally proved wrong when I tried this thing on, it fit perfectly and actually flattered my body, which NEVER happens with cute clothes! I was sold, not just on this dress, but ALL fit and flare style dresses!! ALL OF THEM! (I even picked up this cute black dress that same night and have worn it multiple times)

Now I have this constant need to find dresses comparable, both in style and in cut. I never want to wear jeans again, I ONLY want to wear dresses, cute dresses! Lucky for me, these things are big now and you can pretty much find them anywhere.

So if I had unlimited funds to buy cute dresses I’d buy…

1Difference Between White and Saffron Dress on ModCloth /// 2Our Song Curvy Plus Belted Dress in Navy on Ruche /// 3Women’s Half Zip Fit and Flare Dress by Mossimo at Target (I seem to really love stripes!!)

4Emerald My World Dress on Hello Holiday /// 5Geometric Lace Skater Dress by Express

6Ivete Patchwork Dress by Leifnotes and found at Anthropologie (This dress is so neat! It’s actually patchwork, just like a quilt!!) /// 7Prabal Gurung For Target Dress in Meet the Parents Print found at Target (this is the monotone version of the first dress! I found it in my size at a Target not too far away, so I may go try it on this weekend to see if I like the print on me)

And of course you can’t just go buy dresses and not have anything to go under them! So here’s a few things I wish I could accessorize these, and other dresses, with…

8Arrows Cotton Leggings by Hello Apparel /// 9Stephenie Boot found on ShoeMint

10Motor Boots by Wanted Shoes /// 11Emerald and Black Leggings by ZIB textile (I really love patterned leggings and boots, the combo always makes me smile)

12Muse Flats by Elf (I’d take these in ANY color!! They are made by hand and look soo comfy!)

13Any Low or Mid Height Heel that Swedish Hasbeens makes!! (They are all so gorgeous!)

Since I’m new to this whole “buying cute clothes” thing, I could use any suggestions as to where to find dresses and such!! Thanks in advance!!

Oh and another part of my obsession seems to be the urge to make my own dresses! I’ve already made a muslin of one I really like and I’m just waiting on some custom fabric to come in. Once I finish the first working dress I’ll totally share it on here!!!! I’m excited, I’ve always wanted to make clothes and now I finally feel comfortable enough to do so!!!

My Favorite Sunglasses!

I have been meaning to do a post about these amazingly awesome sunglasses for awhile, but I kept procrastinating, I just wasn’t ready to take photos of myself. Well, this years one and only new years resolution was to get more comfortable in front of the camera.

So why not start by posting a disheveled photo of me wearing awesome handmade sunglasses? (Ha, I only say disheveled, because my hair seems to have a mind of its own since I had it cut and won’t behave!).

Now that that part is quickly over, let’s talk more about these sunglasses. They are sorta like the ones from my wish list back in September. I really wanted this exact pair with the pink inside, but they weren’t available online, I believe they were a craft show exclusive?

They are handmade by the awesome duo Beca and Doug of Tumbleweed Handcraft. (who unexpectedly gifted these to me as a thank you for something, which shows how sweet they are!!). They are a wood veneer on a plastic frame. The frame has some springy give at the hinges, so they fit VERY well and are comfortable for long days. My exact pair is pink inside, but I believe most of the sunglasses they make are black, with the exception of these in lilac. They have UV400 lenses included, but they can be switched out for prescription lenses if you like (I’m tempted to get a dark colored pair for this exact reason). Oh and they are also waterproof and weather proof! Perfect!

I have been watching the making process over on Instagram for awhile and you can see that a lot of love and care goes into each and every pair! Which makes them feel so much more special. Plus their coming out with new designs ALL THE TIME! You could seriously form a sunglasses addiction because of these things (I already want sooo many more pairs!)

So yeah, in the end what I’m trying to get across is, you need to go buy yourself a pair!!

Collections: Mini Pyrex

Seriously, how awesome is this stuff? It’s Blythe sized Pyrex!!!!

I have been searching for a very long time for these pieces with no luck. It wasn’t until Molly brought some of the matching mugs to last months crafternoon, and told me what they were called!! I seriously got right on eBay the second I left the party, and ordered me some. Oh and for anyone else searching for these, their by Re-Ment and are part of their American kitchen series! (they also have adorable mugs that look like milk glass)

I am over the moon about them. Oh and if you look at the photos you can see one of the pieces matches a piece I already own (which was actually a gift from Molly too!).

I haven’t quite figured out how I’m going to display them, their so damn tiny! I do have a miniature hutch I picked up a few months back, maybe that would work? Maybe I can frame one of these photos for my kitchen? that way the whole pyrex collection is together?

I may be over thinking this…
