Happy Easter!

Yesterday was CT’s first time dying eggs, and of course she loved it!! Most of the eggs were dyed a few different colors on top of each other, because she just kept going! She was mostly careful and hardly got anything on her, which was nice. (she would have freaked out otherwise)

When we finished the first thing out of her mouth was “Now we can eat them!”. So we peeled the shell off of one and gave it to her, she looked super disappointed and when we asked her why she said “I thought they were candy inside!”. Awww!!! Luckily, she still ate most it.

Today were mostly just hanging around the house and then later will be visiting family an hour or so away for festivities and such. It’s a tradition of sorts.

I hope everyone who celebrates is having a great day!! Happy Easter!

Inspiration: Diagonal Stripes and Lots of White

Very rarely do I get super inspired by something, especially just one photograph. Most of the time I’ll like a small piece of the puzzle. Like maybe just the rug, a lamp or the color of the walls. I blame my weird ideas on how I want my house to look. I’m very picky…

… but then I saw this image while on Pinterest. I was browsing polka dot and stripe images for Alt (something I do in my free time) and I seriously got sidetracked. I clicked on the image and was redirected to the Pencil Shavings Studio blog. I had to know more about this room!

Luckily there were loads of photos! I was able to see this room in all it’s glory.

After looking through all the photos I was in even more awe.

All of a sudden I want diagonal stripes in the stairwells of my house! (I can’t decided if I want to paint them or use the wide washi tape like Rachel did)

I want to paint all the frames in my library white (and finally paint the damn walls gray). That way the artwork stands out more, and its feels a little more consistent.

I want to paint all of the walls in the house that are still builder beige WHITE! I want more white in the house. I feel like just that little bit of beige makes this house not feel the way I want it to. I’m not a beige person. I’m also looking into switching up some of the light bulbs to daylight ones, so it feels nice and fresh at night too.

I’m actually thinking of putting red and navy in the house, two colors I normally stay away from!

I was fully inspired. I even went as far as to email Rachel, the author of The Pencil Shavings Studio to tell her just how much I loved this room (and to ask for permission to use the above photos!). She was super sweet by the way!

I can’t wait until I have energy again, because seriously, I am on a mission!! Our home gets so much light during certain times of the year, and all the trim and shades are white. Along with a lot of the furniture. I want to use this to my advantage and make the house bright and clean feeling all the time. I want to embrace color just a bit more. Not on the permanent pieces, but as statement pieces (I’m not giving up my gray walls). Like maybe a bright graphic rug in the living room, or some bright colored curtains in the kitchenette. The options are endless, and I’m itching to start!!

Oh and something else pretty cool, The Pencil Shaving Studio is having a Land of Nod giveaway to go along with this room! You should head over and enter!!!

Blythe Eye Chip Test…

This past weekend was spent doing one of the things I love the most… casting plastic! A great way to spend the weekend in my opinion.

I had a friend request some Blythe eye chips for one of her girls, plus I had some new 3D printed pieces I wanted to test out, so I put aside a big chunk of time to get them all done. I am so happy I did! It was so much fun to think outside the box and work with clear plastic for once. I even messed around with glitters, powders, fillers and beads. I now love it all!! I may be glitter obsessed.

I may have gone a little overboard with the eye chips too, as you can see in the first photo, but I’m ok with that. Whatever is left over, after friends pick out some pieces, I’ll add to the shop soon!

I also have a whole new line of necklaces, brooches, hair pins and bracelets now. I seriously can’t wait to share those with you. Maybe tomorrow I’ll do a sneak peek (as long as the weather permits photos, were expecting snow!)

If I Had Unlimited Funds: March 18th

This week I decided to do another random assortment of things I have been eyeing lately!

I’m still on the gluten once a day deal, so I’m still tired and have had a lot of time to browse the Internets and basically window shop!

So if I had unlimited funds to buy whatever I wanted, I’d buy…

1 - Dreamy Morning Roe Dress by ZIB Textile (How amazing is this dress? there’s geometric shapes, deer and its teal! One of my favorite colors!)

2Organic Silver Post Earrings with White Gold Sparkles by tiny galaxies /// 3Scooter Necklace by Strangely Yours (How cool is this thing? It’s laser cut and can move!! Plus you can customize the license plate!! Plus its a scooter, I LOVE scooters!)

4Planet Poster 1 by Debbie Carlos /// 5Holding Pattern Overnight Bag on ModCloth

6Personalized Polaroid Portrait by Danny Brito (I think this is great, you send the artist a photo, and he does a Polaroid type illustration for you!)

7Twilight Fox Print by Hillary Bird /// 8Hexagonal Eco Resin Ring by Rosella Resin

9Wood Pendant Collar with Gold Geometric Pattern by the Twenty Fingers

10Alice in Wonderland tee on Uniqlo /// 11Modern Throw Blanket by Little Hip Squeaks (most of the items in the shop are for little ones, but I just love the simplistic patterns so much. I was excited to find out they made large throw blankets!)

I’m getting closer to the date when I can stop eating gluten again (April 10th to be exact), so I’m hoping to show more projects and less window shopping afterwards!!

Super Colorful Macarons

This months Crafternoon was Easter themed (as I mentioned in yesterdays post), so I wanted to make macarons that were as colorful as Easter eggs!

My first attempt was the swirly ones, which are plain ole almond flavored with a coconut butter cream filling in teal. I pictured something completely different than what came out, which I was totally fine with because these were still fun! Only a few from that batch came out, because it seems one of my ovens is not working properly and I didn’t figure that out until halfway through the second color!!!

The second color/flavor combo I made were the purple ones. They are cinnamon maple flavored with bright pink cinnamon butter cream filling (these are a favorite in my house! they are like cinnamon waffles!). I thought those were the only two colors I was going to make, until I figured out the oven thing and had to make a third batch! The third batch were the bright pink ones which were orange flavored with bright yellow vanilla butter cream filling! I ended up with a bunch of those!!

I was super happy with the way these came out in the end. I have finally mastered using the piping bag with no mess, which mostly means uniformed shells! I am also more confidant with how much coloring I use, so now my macarons are super vibrant and fun!

I will be making a few more batches this week for an upcoming get together and neighbor gifts, so expect another macaron post soon!!

On a side note, I liked the first photo so much that I added it to my Society6 shop so I could have an iphone case made of it! If by chance any of you would be interested in something like that too (or a print), then just click here
