Collections: Disney

Today I’m sharing with you another one of my larger collections. I have a thing for all stuff Disney. Disney shows, Disney parks, Disney books and especially Disney memorabilia. I don’t know exactly when this all started, but I’m assuming I was young, and I bet commercials had something to do with it.

I remember the first time I really became interested in the inner workings of Disney, not just the products, was after reading one of the many biographies of Walt Disney. I was 13, so I don’t remember exactly which one it was, but I do remember loving it! I read it after the Kurt Cobain biography, and my “punk” self thought Disney was WAY more interesting. HA!

I had to know more, so I went to the library and checked out two more of his biographies. I even did a report on him in middle school, I talked in front of the class and all! I’m really shy, so that’s a big deal for me. This was also around the time that I started to REALLY want to go to Disney World! I wanted to see everything this guy had built. It wasn’t great timing, my youngest sister was a baby, my family was going through some pretty crazy times and it just wasn’t looking like it would ever happen. I understood. I figured I’d just go when I got older.

Flash forward a decade or so… my Disney obsession had died down a bit. I was in LA with Heidi and Katie vending at one of the holiday Felt Club shows. One of the traditions with the local crafters was to visit one of the many amusement parks in their area. This time around they decided on Disneyland!! I was excited! I FINALLY got to visit a Disney park. I was very lucky too, because one of the girls boyfriend was a tour guide, and she had picked up on a lot. I got to hear a bunch about each and every ride. I think I may have wandered off a few (a bunch of) times. I feel bad now about making the group worry. I was like a kid in a candy store, I couldn’t help it!!

That trip started my obsession back up. It probably didn’t help that cable tv made it really easy to access NON STOP documentaries on Disney and their parks. If its about Disney, I’ll watch it! It was a few more years before I finally made it to Disney World. My sister in law had her wedding there! It was awesome. The trip made me so happy that my husband took us back later in the year for our one year wedding anniversary! Oh and to top off that year I was a vendor at another Felt Club, so we figured were already in the area why not go to Disneyland?

Three Disney trips in one year? My 13 year old self would have been SO jealous!!!

I became pregnant with CT pretty soon after, and we haven’t had a proper vacation since. Like I said last week, were headed back to Disney World in the Fall. I bet after reading this you can imagine just how excited I am!

As you can see from my collection, I prefer the Mickey Mouse figurines or anything that has to do with the parks! I collect both new and old Disney memorabilia. I like the bold, and colorful styled pieces. A bunch of the new pieces are from my four trips, I go crazy in the gift shops! I’m already saving up for the Fall trip. I have my eye on the new Vinylmation series. Especially this one. I’ve heard that there are even park exclusive pieces?!?! Ooooooooh!!! Haha!

We also have many pieces scattered throughout the house that are Disney, half belonging to CT. I just didn’t want to post a few dozen photos!! I chose my most favorite pieces to share today.

I did not expect this post to be sooo long and informative, but I just couldn’t help it!! Ha. Do any of you get this way about anything? Your favorite show? Your favorite band?

Collections: Pyrex

Today I present to you one of my newer and most addicting collections…

Vintage Pyrex!! My husband and I have been thrifting for years, and we always saw the Pyrex bowls and casseroles, but we never had room for them.

Well then came the house! and then came Pinterest! and then came Tasha! We finally had room, I was bombareded with awesome pyrex on pinterest and I met Tasha who is a HUGE collector and can tell you the name of any piece you show her. I realized owning ALL of these awesome pieces wouldn’t actually be THAT hard and I already had the Corelle to match… the words of an addict…

It started with that little yellow fridgie in the top left corner. I found it for $2 at a local antique mall. I loved how bright, colorful and sturdy it was. I NEEDED more…

and more…

It just keeps going! it took me close to 2.5 hours to round up all of my pieces, photograph them and put them back where they belong! I got a great workout yesterday, this stuff is heavy!!

You never really know the magnitude of a collection until you put it all in one place, in my case the dining room table, floor and chairs! After taking these photos I decided that from now on, I’m only going to buy the REALLY cool pieces, the rare ones, and the unusual ones. No more buying just because I found a piece, any piece, especially mugs! I never paid more than $15 for a piece, the average price is usually around $6, so it’s not like its an expensive hobby… Collecting really is an addiction. I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs so I guess this is my substitution?

It’s just really fun going to the thrift stores, antique malls, yard sales and flea markets looking for something special. Its a nice thing we do on the weekend together as a family. CT collects Pez now, so she gets in on the fun too! She finds at least one for $1 each time. I’ll show her collection soon enough.

I’m working on more collection pieces for the coming weeks, do you guys enjoy seeing them?

Collections: Toy Scooters

I took a bit of a break from the collections posts, only because my collections were all put away while we painted!

I’m back this Monday with another smaller collection, but one that I love no less.

Toy Scooters! I have more than pictured, but again their still packed away and waiting for a permanent home, in our home. My thing for scooters started almost 10 years ago when my car broke down and I needed a new form of transportation in the city (Baltimore City to be exact). I would pine over the Vespa adds in the newspaper every week. It wasnt until a year later Adult Swim started airing the anime FlCl. A slightly confusing but awesome show, about a girl possibly from outer space that is annoying a young boy with loads of problems. (I’m being vague on purpose, because I think you should go watch it on netflix now, and I don’t want to give anything away). Anyway, the main girl rides an awesome mustard colored scooter with some odd modifications…

… and this is the scooter above! It was my first toy scooter purchase!! It actually came with the character too, but she fell apart pretty quickly.

A few months after that awesome purchase I got to have a real scooter of my own!!! It was a baby blue and cream colored Honda Metropolitan II. I couldn’t have a Vespa because my legs were just too short and I would have toppled over. Ha. I drove that thing everywhere! I loved it so much. Sadly I can’t seem to find pictures of it on this computer, I’m going to search around the house and see what I come up with.

Back to the toy scooters… The collection grew very fast after owning my own human sized version and every time I saw a teeny tiny scooter, or even a large Barbie scooter, I’d pick them up!

I’m still on the lookout for more, though it seems the craze has died down a little in our area. So I don’t see them as often.

And as for the real scooter, I sold it when I became pregnant with CT. We didn’t think I’d get much use out of it in the country and a friend really needed a replacement for her stolen scooter. I seriously miss it all the time. We are still talking about getting me another one day, but this time it’ll look more like the FlCl scooter, P! sticker and all!

I’m one of THOSE nerds.

Collections: Cupcake Liners

So this collection isn’t AS big as the last two, as in it doesn’t take up a lot of space. There’s still a bunch of them…

Cupcake Liners!
I just love them. I don’t even make cupcakes that often! I’m more of a cookie girl. When I do make some I’m totally  prepared, and I can even make them mismatched. I don’t store all of them year round, I actually pack holiday themed ones away with the decorations. Because really, do I need Halloween liners in July?

I can’t take credit for the idea of storing them in a huge jar btw. I saw it on Pinterest awhile back and knew it would be the perfect way to protect and show them off. I’ve also seen people use the tall skinny spaghetti containers and stack them inside. I just had too many.

Collections: My Paper Crane

So as I promised last week, here is a peek at one of my largest collections…

20120430-170356.jpg

20120430-170404.jpg

All of my My Paper Crane / Heidi Kenney pieces.
This is another accident collection. Aren’t most collections accidents? I bought my first piece about 7 years ago? I may be wrong on that, I’m horrible sometimes with dates. I bought a large stuffed tampon, with eyes, from her booth at one of the first craft shows I ever did. I didn’t keep it, I gave it to my mom, but I really wish I had. After that every time I did a show at the same time as her I’d buy, or trade for, a piece or two and sometimes three. I’ve bought way more pieces than are shown! Some are still packed away and some are in my little sisters collection. There’s also a rainbow and a cloud hanging in CT’s room.

20120430-171118.jpg

My absolute favorite piece is the wedding toast Heidi made us as a wedding gift! It’s so cute and I love the double meaning of wedding toast!
My second favorite piece is that HUGE toilet in the first picture! It makes me smile every morning when I pass by it.

20120430-172547.jpg

I haven’t collected too many of the Kid Robot pieces, I have a bunch of the donut keychains from the first series plus a few breakfast keychains. A lot of those are scattered around on different bags and key chains. We’ve been buying some of the pillows for CT’s room too, she loves them. Especially the HUGE pizza pillow, she’s always hanging out on that thing.

Just like the Hellboy collection, I don’t think I’m anywhere done collecting. I don’t think I have too much yet… I’m assuming that’s what makes people stop? More collections coming next week!

Collections: Hellboy

I’ve been talking a lot about collecting lately. It is something I’ve always done. It’s kinda compulsive. If I like something, I have to have every kind! Or at least a few.

I’ve decided to photograph a few of my larger collections to share with everyone and post about them each week.

To start this off right, here is one of my favorite collections…

20120430-165935.jpg

Hellboy!
Yes, I collect Hellboy toys, art, books and clothes. I know it’s not a traditional thing for a girl to collect. Ha. But I love it all.

It started as an accident collection. I was working at Hot Topic, many years ago, and after work sometimes my husband and I (he was just my boyfriend back then), would wander around the Suncoast in the mall. (remember those stores?).They always had awesome toys on clearance. One night they had a bunch of the toys from the first Hellboy movie 75% off. I loved the movie, so I bought two.

20120430-165942.jpg

After that I would just pick up anything Hellboy related that I saw and liked. I’ve been slowly building this collection for about 7 years. I have two favorite pieces. One is that HUGE figure in the middle. I bought him about 3 years ago after I did really well at a craft show.

20120430-170128.jpg

My second favorite is my Qee Hellboy, I don’t remember where he came from, but I love that it’s two things I collect in one toy!

I’m nowhere near done with this collection. Just the other day my husband was suggesting I try and find an 8″ version of the Qee Hellboy. He said I NEEDED it. He’s no better than me with collecting. One of the many reasons we work so well!

Next week I plan on showing off my largest collection… I just need to round it all up first!
