A Calm Week

Yesterday was as calm as the two days before and I LOVED it!

CT was just as excited about Play-Doh the second day as she was the first. She loved the tools we bought her and all the new colors. She figured out halfway through the day that you could mix the colors and make cool caterpillars.

I also finished up a bunch of sculpting, but I forgot to take photos! Of course! I was really happy with two of the finished pieces and I’ve already started the process of making molds. As always, I will document it all and share it here.

CT has really been into the idea of decorating lately. I guess she watches me do it all the time and figures it’s normal. She really wants a purple room with lots of frames on the wall. If it will make her like her room more, why not? We hope to stop by Sherwin Williams this weekend to pick up the purple paint (their having 30% off paint the 5th thru the 8th). Plus I have some plans for storage and seating.

I’ve also been working on some cross stitch pieces to frame. I love to cross stitch. CT really likes the new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show, so I bought some patterns off Etsy and have been working a little bit at a time while watching TV. Multi Tasking!!

That’s another thing I’ve been doing. I’m finally catching up on TV shows that we recorded. I’m almost ready for the Fall season!!

Sculpey vs. Play-Doh

I’ve decided to take this week as a calm week. A week where the only deadlines I have are shipping orders and making lunch! I figured I’d work on some projects that I’ve been meaning to do. Monday I started cleaning my workroom (I hope to have photos once I’m done), and yesterday CT and I sculpted.

I’ve been itching to make some resin figures to paint. It’s been on my to do list for years. Finally a few months ago I decided that I need to stop saying I’m going to do it, and just do it!! My plans got put to the side quite a few times, but yesterday I finally sat down and sculpted. I’m not 100% excited about what I made, but it’s a good start. I finished an entire figure, a little rag doll looking figure to be exact. I’m planning on sanding and sealing the figure today and HOPEFULLY make a mold and a test cast by Friday. Plans always change, but I really hope I can keep to these!!

Usually when I do anything work related CT doesn’t care. Today was different, she was super interested. So I set up a little work area for her to play at too. She never really liked Play-Doh, it always grossed her out. I figured she might go for it this time because I was doing something similar.

She LOVED it!! She actually spent FOUR HOURS playing with one little tub of Play-Doh. Purple to be exact. We only have one color since she never showed interest. She has never, ever, sat for that long to play with anything!! I got a lot finished and she perfected the art of making Play-Doh caterpillars and mustaches. You can even see one of her mustache creations below.

We went by Target last night and picked up a few more colors plus some little Play-Doh ”tools”. CT was really excited when she went to bed last night because her plans for today are to play with PINK, not purple. haha. I wish I could have days where that’s the only thing I need to do!!

My Weekend: Headaches, Crafts & Family

This past weekend was one of those weekends where you want an extra day “off” just so you can recover. I work from home, I’m home all the time, but that doesn’t mean that weekends aren’t as special to me. Weekends mean that there is TWO sets of eyes watching CT, which is really nice. Weekends also mean lots of errand running and spending time with the people we really like.

This past weekend was no exception. We were supposed to spend Saturday morning at the MVA, trying to get me a drivers license (fun fact: I don’t drive!). Those plans changed the night before because I didn’t have all the information needed and I wasn’t really feeling too great. You really need to feel your best to deal with the MVA. So instead I spent most of Saturday dealing with one of the worst migraines I’ve had in a long time!

I didn’t spend my ENTIRE day in bed! around 4 we headed up to Heidi’s monthly Crafternoon. My migraine had subsided slightly, but I still felt out of sorts. This months project was carving stamps that we then used to decorate some reusable tote bags. (the only photo I took was the one above, sorry its an Instagram photo, I just wasn’t feeling like myself) I somehow finished my stamp with only a little cut on my finger. I thought about it on the way home and I have no idea how I didn’t cut my entire finger off!! Who carves with sharp knives when feeling tired? Apparently I do!!

I loved seeing everyone as usual. I also got to enjoy three awesome gluten free deserts that were made because some of the girls knew I couldn’t have any. How sweet is that!?!? The girls who come to these crafternoons are seriously some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. It’s awesome! Thank you Heidi!!

We had to leave a little early because first off, it was close to CT’s bedtime and we were an hour away from home plus we had family coming Sunday and we needed to tidy up a bit (aka clean for the first time in two weeks). Instead when we got home we got sucked into watching the new Nerdist specials on BBC America. I totally recommend them!!

We woke up way to early Sunday and “tidied up”. My sister in law and brother in law, along with their three kids came up to visit for the a bit. It was awesome!! CT was so excited to see her cousins and I was happy to have family over. Our weekends get so crazy that sometimes we don’t get to see the people we want to see, so days like this are nice. We had a little barbecue, I got to play with my little baby nephews and CT had the best day ever! (in her words).

The family left early in the afternoon so we tried to spend the rest of the day relaxing, we kinda succeeded, as much as you can with a toddler I guess…

I think I caught a cold somewhere along the way and seriously did NOT want to get out of bed this morning. Their building a house next door, and we had painters fixing our bay window at 6:30, so sleeping in wasn’t really an option! Maybe tomorrow?

I’m thinking next weekend we MAY try and go to the aquarium, it all depends on how exhausted we are by Friday night!!

I’m sorta, kinda, in the DC and Baltimore area. Both cities are pretty close. Do any of you have suggestions for neat, indoor, things we could do with a toddler on the weekends? Something all of us could enjoy? I’m waiting until Fall to visit all the outdoor places, So I guess I could take suggestions for those too.

Used Books

After photographing the library, we got the itch to buy more books!! Of course, right? Ha.
So we headed to our favorite used bookstore! Wonderbook in Frederick.

It’s one of those shops where the books are placed in the right categories, but there’s soooo many books that their just stacked and placed wherever. I love that!!

We had been going as a couple for years, picking up whatever caught our eye. But now it’s even more interesting because we have CT. Their children’s book section is huge and has great prices on really cool books.

Usually she finds something here, but this past trip she was a bit distracted. CT and her daddy have started collecting Pez dispensers! A collection I’ll share eventually on here. I thought it would be neat to find a Pez collectors book for them. Well, I found TWO. I’m so glad I did, those books were a huge hit with CT. She has already spent hours flipping through them picking out ones she already has and ones that are “really cute!”. She’s actually looking through one right now as I type.

I ended up picking out a few books for her, and me, from the kids section. Plus my husband found the Douglas Adam’s book and the Hitchhikers Guide companion book for me. I’m a huge Douglas Adam’s fan. I actually just got a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy themed tattoo last month and CT’s middle name is a character from the book. Yep, again, we’re those nerds. Haha.

Macaron Party!

The past few weeks have been filled with cleaning, unpacking (finally) and painting. All were in preparation for finally having friends over! Woohoo!!!

I’ve been taking macarons to the past few crafternoons Heidi has been hosting. During the first one it was suggested I have a get together and teach everyone how to make them. I kept stalling when it came to picking a date, but finally after some nudging from different directions I picked Saturday, June 23rd!
I invited all of the awesome girls I’ve been meeting at the crafternoons, plus everyone else I’ve known for a bit.
I’ve never hosted anything but family get togethers, so this whole concept was new to me. What do you serve? What kind of drinks? Etc etc? JC helped with picking out fruits, cheeses and crackers since I had no idea. All I could think of was the sweets.

Everyone I invited showed up, which was awesome!!

We talked and joked for so long that we didnt leave much time for the actual macaron baking. So I just set up my mixer on my island and everyone stood around while I instructed… Which was super awkward to do!!! Haha. I felt like I was being filmed for a cooking show!

The plan was for everyone to bring different flavors and fillings and we would choose a bunch to make. We ended up making one batch, that was split in half. So two flavors. The first were raspberry flavored with lemon curd filling, and the other was pumpkin spice with a chai buttercream filling. Both came out looking good and tasting great!!

Oh and since macarons only require the egg whites, I had a bunch of egg yolks left over. So I tried my hand at creme brûlée!! I just found a basic recipe on allrecipes.com. They weren’t 100% perfect, a teeny bit gooey in the middle and burnt on the top!! But they tasted right. Ha. I think they should have refrigerated a bit longer to set, bc the ones we had later that night with family were perfect!!

I don’t know when I’ll have another party, but I hope it’s soon. I really loved having everyone over!! It kept a smile on my face all weekend.

EDIT: you can read a little more about this get together over on Heidi’s and then Katie’s blogs!

What I’ve Been Up To…

It’s been super crazy in my house lately!

- My baby sister graduated high school, a whole year early! so there was celebrating that! I’m beyond proud of her.

- Heidi had another crafternoon, though only one of my photos came out! So I decided against a blog post about it. I promise to talk about the next one, which is very soon.

- CT has taken up bouncing as a hobby. Which basically means I’m constantly having to keep an eye on her because it seems bouncing on and around everything is a pretty dangerous hobby. She seems to be getting hurt at least 5 times a day. Were going through a lot of band aids.

- Lots and lots of spring cleaning. I keep bringing all these awesome finds into the house, but I never really put them where their meant to go. So I’ve spent the past two weeks doing just THAT! no more thriftining until I put everything in its place.

- We started painting the house. the ENTIRE HOUSE! We bought ten gallons of paint during Sherwin Williams Memorial sale. I have four rooms, a stairwell, a very tall entryway and a hallway to paint. I’ve only finished the kitchen and half of the living room. I may be painting for awhile.

- During the off time from painting (or when my husband is doing it) I have been slowly getting ready for a shop update!!! finally!! I have several new designs for this update and over TWENTY new pieces for next months update. I’m so excited to finally change things up a bit. Same old colors, brand new designs!

and to end this post off right, here are some sneak peeks of what will be in the update later this week…
