My Daily Uniform

Daily_uniform_simpleBeca of Tumbleweeds Handcraft posted a fun little challenge on instagram last week. It was to show your favorite “go to” outfit, it could be drawn, photographed or anything else you could think of. It was purely for fun, so I thought “why not try!”. I loved the little sketches so much, i wanted to share them on here…

My “go to” outfit has pretty much been the same for YEARS! The colors and shapes may change a bit, but the overall look is the same.

  • A comfy cardigan over a tank top, or sometimes a girls tshirt with something nerdy on it.
  • A pair of levis, usually cuffed wide a few inches above my ankles. I do this even in the winter.
  • In the summer it’s a pair of no show socks, in the winter it’s usually a pair of striped or polka dotted high socks.
  • As for shoes, I prefer New Balance 574′s. I also own a bunch of Van’s classics (slip-on’s and laced up) but I always go back to the 574′s. Currently I have a hunter green pair and my mom got me a pair of bright pink ones for xmas (I’m trying out bright colors this year).
  • I have a few purses, but the one that gets the most use is my Fossil Satchel.
  • Glasses. I always have glasses on, my newest pair are oversized maroon Ray-Bans.

I also wear dresses, boots and pretty shoes, but the above items are 100% my go to favorite things. They are comfortable and not too constraining. What are your favorite pieces of clothing?

CT’s 4th Birthday Adventure

ct_bday_smith_001My little girl turned FOUR last week! Super crazy. For her birthday we asked if there was anything special she wanted to do. Her original response was “go to the park”. We then explained she could do more too and started listing off loads of places. In the end she told us she wanted to go to the museum, because theres a museum in Animal Crossing video game. Though in the game theres Art, Dino Skeletons, Live Insects and Butterflies. Luckily the Smithsonian covers most of that stuff all in one building and it’s only a short drive and a metro ride away!

ct_bday_smith_002 ct_bday_smith_003ct_bday_smith_015First we checked out the Dinosaur Skeletons and Fossils, since that was her first request. It’s also a big thing in the game. You dig up fossils, take them to the museum and a little owl guy checks them out and then you have skeletons that you can donate to the museum or sell for profit.

ct_bday_smith_010ct_bday_smith_012ct_bday_smith_013I may have gone a bit overboard with the photos, but seriously the Smithsonian is SO COOL! I grew up visiting all the museums on field trips, with my family and then as a teenager with my friends. I had the biggest smile on my face all day watching CT freak out about everything. She is really into skeletons and such right now (Thanks to the Dr. Suess book: Inside Your Outside, All About the Human Body) So the exhibits actually kept her attention.

ct_bday_smith_009Lucky for us there was also a small exhibit with live fish. So we could check that off the Animal Crossing list.

ct_bday_smith_011They also had gems and live butterflies like in the game! (I took so many photos of the butterflies that they require their own post)

ct_bday_smith_004 ct_bday_smith_005As you can tell from our required photo outside the museum, it was COLD! I think it was freezing temps actually. Don’t worry, we were all super bundled up.

ct_bday_smith_006 ct_bday_smith_008 ct_bday_smith_007ct_bday_smith_014ct_bday_smith_017ct_bday_smith_016To end our Animal Crossing themed museum trip, we headed next door to the National Gallery of Art Sculptural Garden. Seriously one of my absolute favorite places! CT loved walking underneath the sculptures and see just how big they were!.

The entire day was just so much fun. We all enjoyed ourselves and are already planning another trip down. There’s so much more to see!!!

Check back tomorrow for my ridiculous amount of butterfly pictures from the Live Butterfly Pavilion at the Smithsonian.

If I Had Unlimited Funds: January 28th

Today I don’t really have a theme, just more of a “I just REALLY want these things”. A miss match of random things I find on the internet and add to my “Things I Want” list on Pinterest.

So here goes, If I had unlimited funds and NO theme, I’d buy…

1I’m So Tired T-Shirt by Hello Apparel (maybe if i wore this shirt, It would explain my zombie like state these days) /// 2Rainy Day orginal print/painting by Sara Harvey

3Conan O’Brien Quote Typography Poster by IScreenYouScreen (I own their world map print, and I love it! the entire thing is screen printed, even the background color!!)

4Cody by Jon Knox Studio /// 5Quilted Fox Print by Gingiber

6Geometric Leggings by Dream Nation (everything thing is the shop is amazing!) /// 7Geometric Quilt Print by Almost Sunday Inc

8Schoolboy Satchel on Shoemint (I just really like satchels)

9Wood Alphabet Wall Decor by Graphic Spaces /// 10Rude Little Black Book by 27th Street Press

So all I need to do now and either sell everything in my shop, or win the lottery and I’ll be able to get ALL OF THIS! I’d say either is a good plan!

If I Had Unlimited Funds: Designer Con 2012 – Part Two

Like I said last night, I just couldn’t narrow down all the awesome artist, and their wares, that will be at Designer Con this year!

So here I go again. If I had Unlimited funds to go to Designer Con 2012, I would buy…

1Feather Gold Fatchel Bag by Park La Fun (they also have really neat wallets and guitar straps) /// 2Gumbo in Grombyland – Orange Creamsicle by Black Gard

3I Ain’t Afraid of No Ghosts print by the Beast Shoppe

4The Alphabot print by Genuine HAHA /// 5Cursed Candy Corn Plush by House of Darkly

6Winslow the (much larger) Beastlie by Beastlies /// 7Pink Rice Baby by Blamo Toys

8Out For a Drive print by Extracurricular Activities (this print is kinda part of a set! They’re not very expensive, and I bet they would look really neat next to each other. Maybe over a couch or sideboard?)

11The Forest Warlord – Black and Silver Edition by Bigfoot /// 12Bigfoot Barbershop print by Ryan Roberts Photography (I’ve seen these prints on Fab a few times, and always want to buy them!)

Well, I’ve spent way too much time looking at toys and such. I have way too much to do this weekend, so I’m off to cast a few hundred necklaces and build some new displays. Oh and again, if you would like to see all of the other vendors that will be at Designer Con 2012, check out their list here, and if you go, I’d love to see photos!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

If I Had Unlimited Funds: September 28th

I’ve been working behind the scenes a lot lately. I’m about to switch a few rooms, and finally finish CT’s room. It’s already really cute. I just have some finishing touches to do, like paint, chair rail, curtains, etc.

If I had unlimited funds I’d love to add a few more items…

1Multi Colored Glass Shade by Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. (CT already has this light, but it gives off a very unsettling orange glow and we would really like to change it ASAP) /// 2Princess and the Pea Bedding by Land of Nod

3Pull Up a Pouf (Aqua Variegated) also by Land of Nod (she HAD an awesome beanbag, but it unfortunately was a victim of our last cold and was not able to be cleaned!) /// 4Elephant Wooden Mobile by Freya Art & Design

5I Feel Like A Super Today print by Helen Dardik (She is seriously my new favorite artist! I love everything she does) /// 6Princess Art Prints – Set of 6 by Loopz Art

7Unicorn White Papier-Mache Head by Dwell Studio /// 8Rosette Blossom Round Rug also by Dwell Studio (It would go great with CT’s Dwell Studio for Target dresser)

I know that kids change their mind ALL THE TIME about what they want, so I’m not going to go super crazy with CT’s room just yet. Were keeping it very basic with no real theme. All the artwork can be changed out, and I’m even buying a few new rolls of washi tape specifically to tape up prints of whatever is in at the moment. Nothing permanent.

It is neat to dream about what I could buy though!! Kid’s stuff is so much cooler now than when I was a kid, or even a decade ago when my siblings were little! It’s awesome.

If I Had Unlimited Funds: September 19th

1Art Print – Happiness is Homemade – by Small Talk Studio (I have their “Full Bobbin”  print already and love how vibrant it is) /// 2 - Rustic Bar Stool by West Elm

3Blue Floral Recipe Cards by Rifle Paper Co. /// 4Heirloom Recipe Card Box also by Rifle Paper Co.

5Firefly Pendant Lamp by CB2 /// 6Mama Haihai Storage Container by Camila Prada (there’s an entire set of them available for pre-order right now!)

Today’s finds are all items I would LOVE to have in my kitchen/morning room. It’s a pretty nice sized kitchen area, but there aren’t many walls open for decorating, and the one huge wall available I painted in a dark gray chalkboard paint for CT. I do have a kitchen peninsula type thing that could really use a different light fixture (the last one kinda, sorta caught fire in the cord a little because I put the wrong light bulb in it… maybe… I’ll explain more at another time). It would also totally benefit from some bar stools, since people seem to gravitate to that area when they come over.

I’m also tempted to do a back splash myself one of these days. I’m torn between the normal 1×2 white subway tiles (with dark gray grout) or these plus sign ceramic tiles in white. I’m kinda scared I’ll mess up!!

P.S.: For those of you who were having issues commenting the past few weeks, the problem has been resolved! Thanks for letting me know!!
