Social Networking…

I know I’m a bit behind in all things related to social networking… I’m trying to catch up!

I FINALLY caved and got a twitter account! This will most likely mean that twitter will be ending soon, because that’s how it works. I get an account somewhere, then it’s dead and useless. ha. I’m joking, kinda.

Anyway! you can now follow me on twitter under the username JesseeSueM

I might post about toddler life, shop updates, sales, what I’m working on or anything else that you can post about. I’m not sure yet! I bet it’ll be entertaining watching me try and figure it out. ha!

Oh and I also set up an Art School Dropout’s life on BlogLovin. So now you can be easily notified whenever I write something here!!

I’m really loving that site, now I can be updated on all the blogs I read too! I’m excited!

House Tour: Monsters

Today instead of an entire room, I want to be basic and just share a wall! It’s the wall in between the main hallway and the kitchen. Every time I look at it I smile!

We sorta have a theme throughout the house, a monster theme. But not scary monsters, we prefer cute monsters. I also like things that make you look twice. Like the framed silhouette. At first it might just be a little girl, but at second glance it’s actually a little girl whos scarf has turned into a monster. I’m searching the internets high and low right now for the artist who designed that, but I bought it so long ago I’m having no luck. anyone know who designed it?

Oh and if you look to the right you can see a little bit of the library from the previous house post!

Also, a bit off topic, have you noticed the changes to the blog? I’m currently tweaking things and figuring out what I like. So the blog may look different day to day, I’m not 100% sure what I want it to look like in the end. I guess I’ll get there, eventually!

Used Books

After photographing the library, we got the itch to buy more books!! Of course, right? Ha.
So we headed to our favorite used bookstore! Wonderbook in Frederick.

It’s one of those shops where the books are placed in the right categories, but there’s soooo many books that their just stacked and placed wherever. I love that!!

We had been going as a couple for years, picking up whatever caught our eye. But now it’s even more interesting because we have CT. Their children’s book section is huge and has great prices on really cool books.

20120627-101850.jpg

Usually she finds something here, but this past trip she was a bit distracted. CT and her daddy have started collecting Pez dispensers! A collection I’ll share eventually on here. I thought it would be neat to find a Pez collectors book for them. Well, I found TWO. I’m so glad I did, those books were a huge hit with CT. She has already spent hours flipping through them picking out ones she already has and ones that are “really cute!”. She’s actually looking through one right now as I type.

I ended up picking out a few books for her, and me, from the kids section. Plus my husband found the Douglas Adam’s book and the Hitchhikers Guide companion book for me. I’m a huge Douglas Adam’s fan. I actually just got a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy themed tattoo last month and CT’s middle name is a character from the book. Yep, again, we’re those nerds. Haha.

House Tour: The Library

As I’ve been talking about here and there, we are in the middle of finally settling down in our home. It only took us a year and a half, but oh well, we plan on being here a long time. Plus I like the concept of a slow home, where you think about every purchase and where to put everything. Not rushing into it all because you NEED something on your walls.

To sorta celebrate the fact that four rooms are ready, not complete (they’ll never be complete in my eyes), I’ve decided to share some of them in a mini house tour!

20120627-094538.jpg
The first room I’m going to share is our library! Or, the room that had no other purpose so we just stuffed it with books and toys and called it a library! Ha. I think it was meant to be a sitting room.

20120627-094753.jpg
I talk about it all the time, but I’ll say it again, we’re collectors. We collect everything! I try to not let the collections take over. I notice by grouping like items it’s all, slightly, less overwhelming. All like books together, all Disney pieces on the same hutch, all playmobil people lined up, etc etc.

This is years and years of collecting and I know we’re not done. We haven’t made it to this room yet with paint, so pretty soon I’ll be taking everything off the wall. I might put everything back the same way, or I may change it around. Nothing ever stays the same in this house, everything is constantly being moved and reorganized. I like it that way!! Less stale. I’ll make sure to post photos once I’m done!!

Did you see CT’s photo bomb? She’s insisted on being in at least one photo every time I try and photograph a room. So keep an eye out!!

So, quick question, is this type of post something I should do more often? I love decorating my home, and if everyone is interested, I’d love to share it too!!

Thrift Finds: May 9th thru June 25th

I’ve been saying I can’t buy anything else until I find a place for all the things I already own. Well, I slipped! I took a few trips to thrift stores, looking for frames for things I already owned, and it all snow balled from there…

20120625-172412.jpg20120625-172423.jpg20120625-172354.jpg20120625-172400.jpg

I found a bunch of Pyrex, like I needed more!

More travel plates, a new salt and pepper shaker set (for my dining room), some Pez for the family collection and an old toy from Back to the Future!!

In the next photo set you can see more travel plates, a vase in the shape on ice skates and a new Amish hex.

I also found a good sized chalk board, a travel typewriter in great condition and a leather carry on bag made in Japan. CT loved the typewriter and insisted on showing me how to use it.

In the last photo you can see all the pieces my mom and grandmother found!!! I know have a complete Pyrex butter bowl set, butter dish set and gravy bought with plate. Plus my grandmother found a second gravy bowl plate for my unfinished set!

Every single piece pictured has already found a home in our home and is settling down nicely. which means I get to go to thrift stores all the time again!!!!

I Recovered My Dollar Chair!

A little while back I shared one of my favorite thrift store finds, the $1.00 chair! I loved the faux wood veneer, that was in perfect condition, but hated the gross velvety cushion.

20120625-164008.jpg

That’s the chair above. I wasn’t 100% about what fabric I wanted to use to recover it. So I just placed it in the corner until I decided. I didn’t want to rush into anything! A few days later I received some new fabric from spoonflower that was meant to be a new runner, but I realized it was better suited for the chair!! I was so excited I started recovering it right away!!

I just unscrewed the cushion from the chair and ripped off all the piping and fabric. My plan was to add some new, custom made, black piping back on. I trashed that plan halfway through, after making the piping! Stretching the fabric on was super easy and it actually ended up looking better without the piping!
All together the whole project took me about an hour, and I’m super happy with the finished piece.

It now resides in a cozy corner of my newly decorated dining room! (which I’ll share more of later this week!!!)
