Another Cross Stitch Post: the Avengers

A few posts ago I showed you how to turn a cross-stitched Tardis into a Christmas ornament, and while I was showing you I also told you all about Weelittlestitches. They are the awesome little company that makes nerdy pixelated cross stitch patterns.

Well yesterday they were even more awesome and posted a FREE pattern of the Avengers.

So if your a fan of the Avengers and Cross Stitching then i suggest you try this pattern. If you like it then why not try more?

I know for a fact this is being added to my To Do List. My husband will love it and it will go perfectly right next to the Doctor Who and Hellboy pieces I’ve already finished.

Displaying My Collections: Vinyl Toys

As I’ve said before, I’m a collector, of many things. Books, Cameras, Band T shirts, Show Flyers, Bird Figurines, etc etc… It all takes up a lot of space, but I just can’t part with anything, yet.

One of my larger collections is designer vinyl toys. I received a new one this week, So I decided to show how I display them.

In previous houses and apartments I’d just stick them all up on a few bookshelves and call it a day. As you can see below, It was a bit overwhelming.

(this photo is about 4 years old)

Some days I loved looking over and seeing everything so bright and colorful, other days I just cringed.

When we moved into our first real home last year, I vowed to keep my collections under control. For my sake and for CT’s. I decided to divide them up into different rooms and even pack some away until I knew what to do with them.

My first project was all my Be@rbricks, Dunny’s and Qee’s. I had the most of them and they were all kinda small. Plus my Dunny collection had just quadrupled thanks to a very kind hand-me-down from a friend, so they needed the most help.

I looked everywhere for nice little shelves or risers to put them on. They all just reminded me of my previous toy mess. In the end I decided to use shadow box frames. I even found ones at a few of my local craft shops that fit all three toy sizes perfectly! I bought them slowly so I could use one of the many 40% or 50% coupons sent out. So it never really cost me too much.

I apologize for the crappy photo. It’s been very dreary here lately, plus this set up is in a stairwell with no windows! Anyway, as you can see it’s a lot less crazy looking and basically turned my toy collection into art. Plus I have enough room for 6 more frames! I actually plan on buying two more soon, since I found some missing Be@rbricks and Qee’s that need a home.

Oh and this is the new Holiday themed Dunny I received in the mall this week! The one that sparked this post. Isn’t he cute? Ha!

I’ll be adding him to a frame tonight, maybe I’ll take pictures of the very easy process.

I’m a little late on the game today! CT and I are still sick and just plain exhausted. I wanted to take part in Cyber Monday, I had a whole shop update planned and everything…

but instead I’ll just do a sale.

Yep, 20% off EVERYTHING in either of the shops.

the Art School Dropout Shop or the Mini Art School Dropout Shop

No strings attached. The code can even be used on custom items.

Just use coupon code: CYBMON20 during checkout. I was planning on having the sale end at Midnight tonight (EST), but since I’m behind on posting this I’ll extend the sale until Midnight Tuesday (EST).

The Day After Thanksgiving 2011

CT and I have had a slight cold all week, and I thought we were getting better.

I was seriously wrong. I ended up with a horrible fever Thanksgiving night and CT was up most of the night with a hacking cough.

CT has been watching a lot of Christmas specials and was really into the idea of the holidays. So to make the day after Thanksgiving special, and to counteract the horrible night before, we decided to start decorating for the holidays.

We were still sick, and my husband was starting to show signs of a cold, but we still lugged all the decoration boxes up from the basement. I had to go through everything and pick out all the fragile ornaments, I could do without them for a few years. Apparently I love plastic though, because I didn’t have to take out too many.

Yo Gabba Gabba has a Christmas episode where they sing about decorating the tree. CT sang it the entire time! She even hummed it a few times.

She only wanted to hang the candy canes and the round bulbs. She accidentally broke half of the candy cane’s and she hung all of the bulbs on one branch. It was super cute.

The tree has only been up one day, and so far CT has only taken off about a dozen ornaments. That’s not too bad, right?

I figured we were putting up one of our tree’s, so why not put up the other one! Yes, we have two trees. CT calls the white tree “mommy’s tree”. It’s my clearance tree I bought last year and is filled with either hand cast plastic ornaments or clearance ornaments. It’s our fun tree.

I’m nowhere near done decorating. I still have loads of ideas running through my head. like maybe some quilted tree skirts? or some stuffed fabric trees? or how about some glittery snowflakes for the yard? Maybe even some more ornaments for the tree?

So expect more posts like this one. hopefully a lot more. As long as our cold goes away soon.

Thanksgiving 2011

This year we hosted Thanksgiving at our house. I had heard my uncle wasn’t doing it anymore, and I figured we had the room (and the chairs he used every year for such events), so “why not?”.

I originally thought it would be the whole gang… my grandmother, my mom, my siblings, my four uncles, their spouses/fiances/girlfriends, all their kids, etc etc etc… There’s a lot of us.

I was kinda relieved to find out that it wouldn’t be everyone, just my immediate family, my uncle and his fiance. I think there was 11 of us total.

I didn’t get many photos. Actually I only took ONE! ha. I was too busy cleaning, cooking, and baking.

See my one photo? It’s not even a nice bright photo!

My sister did take a bunch though, mostly of family. She has a much fancier camera, so her photos were a lot prettier.

she took a nice photo of our table mostly filled with food. Nothing too special, but very comfortable.

Oh and those smudge marks on the wall are my next project! Not anything weird. Were trying to pick out paint colors for the dining room.

All in all Thanksgiving was really nice, and I won’t hesitate to offer to host again. I’d even be up for having the entire family if needed.
