I’m Dreaming of Dresses and Fabric…

dream_dresses_001I have been sewing up a storm lately. I have made my very first, second and third dress, and they all fit perfectly. Thats a first for me. (I’ll share actual photos of said dresses once the weather is a bit less unruly). I have also made a bunch of new bags, pouches, pillows and even new embroidered necklaces. I love sewing again.

Out of everything I’ve sewn, those three dresses were my favorite. I want an entire closet full. One in every colorway or pattern I can find. I’m finding a few fabrics I like here and there, but nothing is really catching my eye and making me think “PERFECT!” I keep doodling in my sketchbooks, but again, nothing was just right yet.

Well last night that changed. Instead of going right to bed, I decided to do a little bit of sketching. I’m so happy I did. I drew about a dozen new dress ideas (a few shown above) and a bunch of new repeat patterns for fabric (shown below).

I’m excited! I’ve already ordered swatches of all the fabrics designs above plus some that include actual color. I’m thinking they will work well for dresses AND some pillows or small quilt. The repeats are actually rather large. Oh and I’ve started researching sergers so I can try my hand at one of those cardigans I drew up!!! I’m no fashion expert, at all, but I really do love the idea of making my own clothes. Who knows maybe one day I can make some for others too!!

Spoonflower & Etsy Party Donations

About a month ago Spoonflower contacted me asking if they could use my mini robot doll panel as part of the Etsy Craft Party they were hosting. Of course I said yes! The panel was all ready to go for them as we have had agreements like this before, so it seriously was an easy yes.

The craft party was held last Thursday (June 20th) and by what I can see in the pictures, it looked like a lot of fun! There was a bunch of different fabric panels that could be sewn into different things.

You can see some of the examples above. Pin cushions, merit badges, fabric covered buttons and my little robot! Everyone who attended had the option to take home their creation OR leave it with Spoonflower to sell in their Etsy shop.

All proceeds from the sale of these pieces goes to Heifer International, an organization that has worked since 1944 to end hunger and poverty in communities around the world. Heifer International empowers families to sustain themselves and their communities by providing livestock and training. Not only do these donations of livestock ensure a reliable source of food for families, they also provide the potential for income through the sale of extra agricultural products such as milk, eggs, and honey.

So go check out the shop and help support a very good cause!!

New Pouches and Instant Downloads!

I’ve added a couple of new pouches to the shop! Plus I put around 25 items on sale. They can be found here.

Oh and Etsy did something pretty cool! They added an option with digital files so you can download them immediately after purchasing them! How cool is that? No more waiting!!

I just updated the Geometric Paper Piecing pattern above so that it would be easier. this is kinda making me want to create more patterns. It was a lot of fun, especially the testing part. I’m also really enjoy seeing everyone else’s finished pieces! Keep them coming!

Wallpaper and Wall Decals!

Today Spoonflower announced that they would now be offering both custom wallpaper AND wall decals! How cool is that?!? I was asked awhile back to be a beta tester, and I’ve been keeping this secret for over a year! I’m so excited to finally share a few of the pieces I worked on. Today I will share some of my own favorites.

The Wonky Woodgrain above I actually created specifically for wallpaper, I really wanted the dark gray for my dining room. I ordered the swatch and was about to order the 8 huge rolls needed to do it, but then I changed my mind. I ended up painting the walls the same color, just no squiggly woodgrain lines. I’m still trying to find a place in my house for this paper… maybe as an accent wall? or in my soon to be new sewing room? I’ll figure it out.

I’ve also made it so most of my other fabric designs can be used as wallpaper too. Not all of them worked well, and I tweaked some to make sure the pattern wasn’t too big or too small. I’m really happy with the way they all came out. Oh and now you can also purchase monster decals and growth charts to go with the fabric!!

I also created an alphabet wall decal set that coordinates with most of my girl themed monster fabrics. I actually ordered a set for CT’s room that I will show once we finish painting her room. (and that won’t be until we have a free weekend!!) Each letter is around 8″ tall. and can be cut out and configured anyway you like. The decals feel a lot like fabric is don’t rip easily, Oh and they can re-positioned numerous times! I’ve been testing them!

As you can tell from this post, I’m super excited! I just wish I had more time in the day to do all the projects I want to do. I would seriously make so many things out of wallpaper.

Is anyone going to try out Spoonflower’s new wallpaper or decals? Have you already tried? I’d love to see!!
